Whether you're looking for your first job, exploring future careers, a college program, or simply want to learn new skills, G.R.O.W. from Bobby Dodd Institute is the way to spend your fall break! Getting Ready for Opportunities in Work (G.R.O.W.) is a one-week introduction to employment initiative for students, aged 14-22, with disabilities, an opportunity for Fulton County and Atlanta Public Schools high-school students to build confidence, gain valuable skills, and connect with local employers and community partners in a supportive environment. To help any DeKalb County unhoused person call the DeKalb County Coordinated Entry Line – Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, at 404-687-3500. Provide the EXACT physical street address of the individual with a call back number of the caller who can give additional information. Or provide the cross streets where they can be found.

Making his Concerts@First debut, Dr. Andrew Wilder has a particular passion for Baroque and Classical music, but is equally keen to explore the music of today. You will be treated to a performance which includes music from the Renaissance to the 21st Centuries, including transcriptions by Dr. Wilder, Saturday, Oct. 12, 7:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.   1. The Rev. Tyler Sit, founding pastor of New City Church in Minneapolis, is the featured preacher Oct. 13 on “Day1” with host Katie Givens Kime, the nationally broadcast ecumenical radio program also accessible as a podcast and online at Day1.org. “What Neighborhood Does God Live In?” is drawn from Amos 5, in which the prophet delivers the Lord’s strong call for justice. Hear it in Atlanta on WSB 95.5 and 750 AM Sundays at 7:05 a.m. “Day 1” has been broadcast every week for 79 years. Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, “Day 1” is distributed to radio stations across America and overseas.   2.  The Friends of Music ministry of St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Marietta, will begin its 2024-2025 community concert series with a performance by the Amadeus String Ensemble on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. The performance will be led by Sou-Chun Su, acting principal second violin of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and will feature his wife, violinist Sheela Iyengar Su, violist Zhenwei Shi and cellist Charae Kreuger. The ensemble of professional musicians has been performing in the Atlanta area for more than 20 years.  The musical program will include “String Quartet Opus 18, No. 1” by Ludwig van Beethoven and “String Quartet No. 12 in F,” nicknamed the American quartet, by Antonin Dvorak. Friends of Music events are free to the public and donations are accepted. General seating is first-come, first-served. No tickets are necessary.   3. Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration next in-person planning meeting is Monday, Oct. 14, 7:00 - 8:14 p.m. at Temple Kol Emeth, 1415 Old Canton Rd, Marietta 30062.   4. The next Green Team Roundtable is Tuesday, Oct. 15 at noon, on Zoom. The theme is “Artivism: Creating Art to Raise Awareness and Inspire Change” and will feature Kyarah Barton and Charles Jackson from Atlanta-based collective, Midnight Riot. Midnight Riot is a coalition of artists, students, community members, and organizers dedicated to advancing efforts toward environmental equity and underscoring the intersections of environmentalism and social justice.   7. Sustainable land use is a pivotal, often overlooked, climate solution. GIPL's ReWilding program focuses on the ecological regeneration of congregational lands, restoring natural processes, and fostering more resilient ecosystems and communities. Come on Oct. 19 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in LaGrange to learn more about how your congregation can "ReWild" sacred grounds through projects like tree plantings, native plants, and community gardens. During this workshop, participants will tour a pollinator garden, hear from Ashley Desensi with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, and brainstorm possible ReWilding solutions for your congregation. After the workshop, participants will be invited to apply for a $500 seed grant to help implement a solution on their congregational property. Learn more and register here.

  11. Pitts Theological Library announces 2024 Reformation Day at Emory on campus and online on Thursday, October 31. The highlight of the day’s program is a lecture by Professor Christine Helmer of Northwestern University “The Promise of Luther’s ‘On Christian Freedom’ for Politics Today.” This is one part of a full fall program of in-person and virtual events, centered on the theme “Justification and Justice: 16th-Century Texts and 21st-Century Politics.” Registrationi is open and more information is at Register Here.
  12. Ansley and the Arts: Songwriting and Visual Arts Showcase featuring performances and works by local musicians and artists in support of the Ansley School. Georgia Interfaith Power & Light’s Power-Wise Matching Grant program provides up to $7,000 annually to congregations to support Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Measures within faith communities. To apply, congregations must have completed an energy audit in the past five (5) years and have a registered GIPL Green Team, or plan to start a Green Team in the next six (6) months. The application for the 2024 grant cycle is currently open and will close on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024. Learn more and apply.
