Will you congregation go on an international mission trip this summer?

The research team within the Global Health Department at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health is conducting a research study for international travelers, 18 years and older, who are traveling by plane or boat (cruise.) The results of this study will be used to develop vaccine recommendations for international travelers. We need to recruit 538 participants over the next year (until April 2016) and would like your help sending out information to advertise our study. We are interested in recruiting teams going out for international mission work.

We are looking for study participants who meet the following criteria:

* Planning international travel to destinations other than Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or Japan

* Planning a cruise with at least one port of call outside the US

* The trip must be between 3 and 14 days

* At least 18 years of age

* Members of travel groups may participate independently of the participation of other group members (i.e. OK if even only one person from your group decides to participate in the study)

Participation includes one pre-travel study visit at Emory University or the Travel Well Clinic at Emory Midtown Hospital, collection of pre-travel and post-travel stool samples, completion of a daily diary during travel and 3 post-travel entries, and follow up phone calls at 3 and 6 months after travel. Study participants will be compensated up to $185 for their time.

We would be grateful if you could disseminate the attached flyer and information to your Missions Director, your congregation, and other pastors in the Atlanta and surrounding areas. Our study coordinator (Kia Colbert) is available to come to your church to enroll participants, particularly groups of people, and/or give a brief presentation to the missions group and/or pastors. First Five Freedoms is proud to join Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law, The Temple, and All Saints Episcopal Church for "Faith, Law, & Democracy: A Community Conversation on the Public Good and the Rule of Law" on Tuesday June 2. We hope you will consider joining us for this important discussion. Americans across the political spectrum are grappling with a shared unease: the feeling that something foundational is slipping. Trust in institutions is eroding. The norms that once governed public life are contested. And the concept of the public good — the idea that we share a common stake in fair, just, and accountable governance — is increasingly hard to find in our public discourse. This program brings together faith leaders, legal experts, and engaged community members for an evening of honest conversation about what is at stake. Hosted at All Saints Episcopal Church and co-presented by The Temple, Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law (GLRL), and First Five Freedoms, the event weaves together spiritual reflection, legal analysis, and civic dialogue to address one central question: What does it mean to protect the rule of law — and why does it matter for all of us, right now? The evening will include reflection, analysis, and discussion designed to:

Connect faith, law, and civic responsibility in an accessible, nonpartisan framework
Examine current challenges to the rule of law and their implications for democracy
Create space for authentic dialogue across perspectives and institutions
Foster relationships and identify opportunities for collective action
