Founding Assistant Position Interested in living together with adults with intellectual disabilities, in a community of faith and friendship? Interested in helping make explicit the sacred value of each human being – and helping found a new community of L’Arche in Atlanta? Friends of L’Arche Atlanta  a local initiative of the International Federation of L’Arche  is currently recruiting founding assistants for its first home in Atlanta, where three adults with intellectual disabilities will share life with three assistants. Position begins June 1, 2012. Interested candidates must have the desire to create community with people of all abilities, and to help found a new initiative of L’Arche. College degree required. Modest stipend in addition to room, board and health care. 2-year commitment preferred. Program Coordinator Friends of L’Arche Atlanta  is a local initiative of the International Federation of L’Arche (www.larche.org), and is currently seeking a part-time Program Coordinator to oversee quality of care in its first home in Atlanta, where three adults with intellectual disabilities will share life with three assistants, living together in the manner of a family. The main aspect of this mission will be in assisting our team of house assistants in providing quality care and meeting the requirements of the State of Georgia Division of Disabilities as a licensed provider. 20 hours per week, commensurate compensation with market rate; Master’s or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, special education, or a field relating to developmental disabilities and at least two years experience working with adults with developmental disabilities, preferably in a Community Residential Alternative setting. First Five Freedoms is proud to join Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of LawThe Temple, and All Saints Episcopal Church for "Faith, Law, & Democracy: A Community Conversation on the Public Good and the Rule of Law" on Tuesday June 2. We hope you will consider joining us for this important discussion.  Americans across the political spectrum are grappling with a shared unease: the feeling that something foundational is slipping. Trust in institutions is eroding. The norms that once governed public life are contested. And the concept of the public good — the idea that we share a common stake in fair, just, and accountable governance — is increasingly hard to find in our public discourse. This program brings together faith leaders, legal experts, and engaged community members for an evening of honest conversation about what is at stake. Hosted at All Saints Episcopal Church and co-presented by The Temple, Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law (GLRL), and First Five Freedoms, the event weaves together spiritual reflection, legal analysis, and civic dialogue to address one central question: What does it mean to protect the rule of law — and why does it matter for all of us, right now? The evening will include reflection, analysis, and discussion designed to:

  • Connect faith, law, and civic responsibility in an accessible, nonpartisan framework
  • Examine current challenges to the rule of law and their implications for democracy
  • Create space for authentic dialogue across perspectives and institutions
  • Foster relationships and identify opportunities for collective action
