Pastoral Care for Military Families

Resources that will help our churches provide pastoral care to returning veterans and families of persons serving in the military.

Almighty God, we comment to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ, our merciful and righteous Judge. Amen
Book of Common Prayer

Caring Connections is an online journal published by The Inter-Lutheran Coordinating Committee. The Fall 2007 issue of the journal is dedicated to exploring effective means of ministry among returning veterans. The contributors to this special edition of the journal include chaplains fresh from serving in combat, pastors with developed congregational programs for returning veterans, and pastoral care givers with expertise in issues such as marriage.

Especially for youth ministers and leaders: The Regional Council of Churches is partnering with the Georgia Dept. of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities in SHARE HOPE. Suicide is a leading cause of death in young people. What is the role of the faith community in ministering to troubled young people? Share Hope is an interfaith social media contest to promote the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Because we know that just pausing before acting often stops a suicide attempt, 988 is one important tool in fostering a healthy community. Have a look www.988ga.org/faith. This activity could be a great way to start off the school year with your creative youth group. And, your group could win a $250 Pizza Party--there will be ten winners.
