The Regional Council of Churches of Atlanta welcomes churches, faith-based and secular nonprofit organizations, individuals, businesses, and others to join us for fellowship, to network, and to explore ideas and issues of importance to the community. We work together to promote the common good, magnify the work and witness of the church, and help establish the kingdom of God throughout our region, nation, and all of creation.   1. Meals on Wheels Atlanta serves 525,000 meals annually. Are you interested in helping? Perhaps you can host a food drive. Email rjohnson@mowatl.org to see how you can help. The senior meal program is 97% funded by private donations. Help is needed keeping food on the table.
  2.  Virtual Policy Roundtable: Building Safer Communities Together! Concerned about the recent uptick in domestic violence fatalities across the state? Join GCADV on Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for an open and collaborative roundtable discussion on how communities can work together to reduce harm and increase accountability. We will hear from law enforcement, the courts, and advocates as we discuss the role of firearms in community safety, review tools like danger risk assessments, and discuss policy solutions rooted in prevention and collective responsibility.   1. Community Thanksgiving Service at Alpharetta Methodist Church, 69 North Main Street, on Tuesday, November 18, at 7 p.mmunity we share. This special gathering will be a time of worship, gratitude, and unity - open to everyone, no matter where you come from or what church you call home.
    1. Join The King Center for A Revolution of Values: Confronting the Triple Evils of Our Time, a compelling virtual experience in the Better Together & Beloved Community Talks series. On Thursday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m., tune in for a transformative conversation moderated by Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Dr. Rashad Richey, featuring thought leaders including Dr. Jemar Tisby, Dr. Kristen Kobes Du Mez, Rev. Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, and Dr. Vonnetta L. West. They’ll explore urgent issues of racism, poverty, and militarism through the lens of moral courage, scholarship, and community action. . . an opportunity to engage with voices shaping the future.     2. Updated announcement: The Sacred Arts Collectionis an initiative of Candler School of Theologyat Emory University. Funded by Lilly Endowment, it focuses on engaging Atlanta-area congregations in imagining how to nurture and grow the faith of children through the integration of the arts in worship. They are now recruiting congregational teams for the 2026-2027 cohort, to intentionally engage with and hear from children, facilitate intergenerational participation in creative arts, develop networks for ministry leaders to engage in collaborative dialogue, and enrich congregational ministries.     3. Procession-Emory Ethics at the Movies, Thursday, November 20, 7 – 9 p.m., Center for Ethics, Emory University, Rita Ann Rollins Building, 102, 1531 Dickey Drive, Atlanta 30322. In partnership with the Center for Ethics in the Arts at Emory University, the Atlanta Film Society presents a free screening of “Procession”, featuring a Q&A with Robert Greene, Laura Asherman, and Daniel Christian, members of the creative team. This screening is a part of Emory University's ongoing Ethics at the Movies series. Six Midwestern men — all survivors of childhood sexual assault at the hands of Catholic priests and clergy — come together to direct a drama therapy-inspired experiment designed to collectively work through their trauma. In the face of a failed legal system, we watch these men reclaim the spaces that allowed their assault, revealing the possibility for catharsis and redemption through a new-found fraternity.

    5. Gentlemen of all ages are welcome to join a Sandy Springs Christian group on Friday mornings at 8:00 a.m. in the lobby at church. Volunteers bring breakfast and the men will begin reading/discussing the book “Second Thoughts About Hell” by Roald Allen and Robert Cornwall. Books are provided, and the reading is done during the breakfast time. Every week attendance is not required.
    6. Episode 4209 of Day1 brings the Rev. Dr. Luke Powery to you preaching on Luke 23:33-43. This message invites listeners to rediscover God’s mercy and presence among the marginalized. Hear it in Atlanta Sunday morning at 7:05 on WSB 95.5 and 750 AM. And, the program is also accessible now online at Day1.org, on the “Day1” YouTube channel and on AppleandSpotify podcasts.  So you can listen any time.
    7. Organist Alex Leonardi will perform at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 3:15 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, in person and livestreamed on the Cathedral Website. He will play works of Charles-Marie Widor, Percy Whitlock, Jean Guillou, and his own Improvisation. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Leonardi is pursuing graduate study with Paul Jacobs at The Juilliard School. Alex currently serves as Organ Scholar at Trinity Church in New York City. Following the recital, the Cathedral offers its weekly service of Choral Evensong at 4 o’clock, sung by the Cathedral Schola in celebration of the Reign of Christ.
    8. Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 23, at 4:00 p.m., Northside Drive Baptist Church, 3100 Northside Dr NW, Atlanta 30305. The Rev. KC Crewdson from St. Anne’s Episcopal Church will be preaching this year. A reception will be held in the Chapel after the service. Each year Ahavath Achim Synagogue, New Hope AME Church, Northside UMC, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Northside Drive Baptist, and St. Anne’s come together in gratitude to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving. All are welcome.

    10. Rev. Dr. Amey Victoria Adkins-Jones, assistant professor of Theology and Africana Studies at Candler School of Theology, has researched extensively on Black Madonnas. As a special Advent from Aquinas Center offering, Adkins-Jones will be the speaker at a Lunch and Learn on campus called "Listening for Hope." She will remind attendees about the purpose of the season of Advent and how Mary, in all her iterations, can guide us along pathways to hope despite the noise surrounding us.     13. This past year McAfee School of Theology, Mercer University, created a pathway for theological education without the long-term commitment of earning a Master's degree. Graduate certificates provide access for the lay leader, life-long learner, or post-graduates to learn, discover, and reflect along theological categories. Five graduate certificates are now offered: Theological Studies, Spiritual Care, Church Leadership, Ethics, Trauma and Theology.     14. Atlanta Tuba Christmas at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Friday, December 5, at 12:00 p.m. on the Front Turnaround. Sounds from the tuba family will fill the air in celebration of the season, 3180 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta 30305.
    15. Four Faiths, One Stage, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Four faith traditions will share the role of chant/recitation in their sacred scriptures. This event features Tibetan Buddhist multiphonic chanting by Drepung Loseling Monastery, Gregorian chant ensemble from St. David’s Episcopal Church, Quran recitation by Islamic Speakers Bureau, and Hebrew Bible chanting by Temple Beth Tikvah. The magic is back!

 

Simpsonwood’s 2025 Walk Through Bethlehem will come to life again on December 12-14 in Simpsonwood Park, 4511 Jones Bridge Circle in Peachtree Corners.

Visitors of all ages will be inspired by hundreds of luminaries that light the path leading to the interactive village and live nativity, including its retelling of the story of the birth of the Christ Child. 

Since 1991, Simpsonwood United Methodist Church has brought “Bethlehem” to Peachtree Corners, so that others can experience the majesty of the Biblical story.

 

Admission is free and the Scout Troop will be receiving donations of canned goods for donation to Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries.
