Come hike with AMIS friends at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, west of Atlanta! The group will depart from Midtown MARTA at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, and will return to Midtown MARTA by 1 p.m. Come for a morning of hiking, viewing old ruins, and taking in the wondrous sights of Georgia's wilderness. Vannorsdall, chaplain at Yale and a frequent and favorite Protestant Hour preacher, preaching on John 20:19-29. He reflects on Thomas, doubt, compassion, and the resurrection hope that meets us in the hard realities of ordinary life. This message invites us to trust that even amid shadow and sorrow, the final word is resurrection. The podcast is an expanded version of the broadcast. 5. St. Mary’s Sewanee has several workshops this summer offering a variety of restful, reflective experiences to give you the moment of peace you're looking for. Each workshop is only one day, so you don't need extensive preparation to attend. They are $40 each and include lunch. July Pop-Up Workshops. 6. Atlanta Singing, July 20, 7:00 p.m., in The Barn behind St. John the Wonderworker, 543 Cherokee Ave SE, Atlanta 30312 (near Grant Park and the Atlanta Zoo). The Barn is off of Orleans Avenue, walk up drive way behind the church. No musical experience needed. Contact info: Anna Hinton [e-mail]. 7. Self-Help Credit Union – a nonprofit credit union with a focus on economic justice in underserved communities – is hosting an event on Tuesday, July 28 in Atlanta’s West End (921 Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd) called “Building Bridges: Faith, Finance and Community.” The event will bring together local faith leaders, community members, and nonprofit partners for meaningful conversation, relationship-building, and collaboration over coffee. A coming-of-age story set in a nursing home, it poses the topical questions: How do we, as a society, care for our elders? Looking for a meaningful internship experience? House of Cherithis accepting applications for internships throughout the year. Interns gain hands-on experience while supporting women and families on their journey toward healing, restoration, and independence. Whether you're studying social work, counseling, ministry, human services, or a related field, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside our team, assist with resident programming and case management, and learn about trauma-informed care in a residential recovery environment. Learn more 10. Hagar’s House is the Decatur Cooperative Ministry emergency shelter for homeless families headed by single women. At the moment, Hagar House Shelter does not have adequate volunteers signed up to provide dinner for the families. If you’re able to help, it would be appreciated. Sign Up   11. The Atlanta Beltline Partnership has a new online volunteer portal that streamlines the volunteer experience, allowing residents to browse opportunities, register for events, complete required training and track their volunteer hours all in one place. The portal is designed to connect more people with projects that help maintain and enhance one of Atlanta’s most-used public spaces.   12. Atlantic Institute has rescheduled the Fountain Forum “Understanding Across Shared Values: The Architecture of Trust” for September 15. 13.
